Speed Up Your Old Desktop/Laptop PC

Speed Up Your Old PC

You might currently have an old personal computer (desktop or laptop) in your house, lying untouched for many years. Due to the advancement of technology, the smartphones that we have in our hands are capable of doing many things, due to which we don't require our old desktop or laptop PCs.
These old PC's also don't have that much processing speed what we currently required, that's why we don't use our old PC's.

But today, we are going to provide you a method through which you can speed up your old desktops or laptops, if they are currently in working condition.

You don't have to buy a new desktop or laptop now. You can use your old PC and it will work as new.
Due to the current need for work from home and online studies, we all need a desktop or laptop at home. So, you don’t have to buy a new laptop for your current requirements, with this method that I will tell you today, you can use your old laptop as new.

So before I tell you the method, let’s discuss the components on which the speed of your PC depends.

Components on which the speed of your PC depends

Processor

The processor is the brain of your PC. The faster the processor, the faster speed you will get.
Upgradation in this component needs lots of hardware changes and will cost you too much, so we will not recommend changing this component.

RAM

Random Access Memory, it is required by your PC to do multiple tasks simultaneously. Larger the RAM, the larger number of apps you can run simultaneously.
Upgrading this component is easier and cheaper, but it will not help increase your PC's speed to a significant amount.

Hard Disk

You might say that how a storage component can contribute to the overall speed of your PC?
But this component can highly contribute to the speed of your PC if the OS is loaded on it.
Our old laptops and desktops usually will have a SATA HDD in it, which have some speed limitations due to which the overall speed of your PC can hamper.

Upgrading this component of your PC to a new technology SSD drive is cheaper and easier. It can also increase the speed of your PC to a significant amount up to 6x folds.
So, here we will discuss upgrading your PC to an SSD drive. It will be a hardware upgrade, hence till will cost you a little amount of money.

Solid State Drives - SSD

As per Wikipedia, a solid-state drive (SSD) is a solid-state storage device that uses integrated circuit assemblies to store data persistently, typically using flash memory, and functioning as secondary storage in the hierarchy of computer storage. It is also sometimes called a solid-state device or a solid-state disk, even though SSDs lack the physical spinning disks and movable read-write heads used in hard disk drives (HDDs) and floppy disks.
Compared with electromechanical drives, SSDs are typically more resistant to physical shock, run silently, and have quicker access time and lower latency. SSDs store data in semiconductor cells.

If we compare the read and write speed of an HDD and SDD, then a most efficient HDD can read and write at the maximum speed of 125 MBps, whereas a typical SDD can read and write at speed up to 520 MBps.
Hence if we replace the HDD in our PC with SSD, then it can significantly increase the speed of the system.

Method to Speed Up Your Old PC

  • Purchase a 256 GB SSD, either online or from some nearby shop. A 256 GB SSD is available easily in around 3000 to 3500 Rs. Click here to check out the best SSD on Amazon.
  • Open your desktop panel and connect this new SSD to the free available SATA connection.
  • Turn on your PC and format this new detected SSD drive.
  • Install EaseUS tool to create a clone of your boot drive, i.e., C drive to the new SSD drive.
  • Once the cloning is completed, restart your PC and go to the boot menu in its next start and select SDD drive as your primary boot device.
  • Done. Your new SSD will become your boot device, and you can see the speed difference by yourself.
If you know some technical details about computers, then it is a very easy process for a desktop PC, and you can also do it by yourself. You can also upgrade your old PC with the help of some computer experts. For Laptops, we will recommend you have to take the help of laptop service experts.

So, by upgrading your old laptop or desktop PC with a new SSD drive, you can highly increase the computer system's overall speed. You can use those old PC now for your online classes and work from home.
Share this method with your friends so that they can also utilize their old laptops and desktops now.
