How to use your Android phone as a Webcam



Due to this pandemic situation most of us are staying in our homes to protect our-self and our near and dear ones. But we have also developed a new normal due to this situation, that is working and studying from home through various online technologies. All these online meeting portals like, Google Meet, Zoom Meeting, Microsoft Teams, Cisco Meeting, Jio Meet  etc needs three basic things to participate, one is microphone for audio in, speaker for audio out and a camera for video.

If we are connecting to these online portals through our smart phone than these smartphone have all the accessories which will help us to participate in the meeting. But these smartphone have one limitation.

Its screen size, the small screen size of our smart phone will hinder us during online studies and meeting to view the documents properly. Hence we require a bigger screen to read the documents properly.

We can use our laptops and desktops as they have a larger screen and are mainly meant for such type of activities.

But some times our old laptops and desktops doesn't have the basic accessories like camera, mic which are required for these meetings. Or may have the damaged or faulty one which are not working.

So what we will do in such situations??? 

Buy a new laptop or desktop??  

Buy these accessories like camera and mic?? 

The answer to these questions are a big NO.

So, We are here to help you out for such situations. If you have an android smartphone, then you can use its Camera and Mic on your laptop and desktop very easily.

Below are the steps for you to convert you mobile into a webcam/mic:

1) Install DroidCam app in your android mobile phone. There are many similar apps but we have rated this as the best app for our required purpose.

2) Install DroidCam Windows client on you laptop or desktop.

3) Your mobile and laptop/desktop should be connected to same Wifi/LAN of your home.

4) Open the DroidCam and note the Wifi IP address it is showing.


5) Open your DroidCam Windows client and enter the IP address which you noted in the previous step in the pop up window which appears.


6) Select both Audio and Video if you want to make you phone as webcam and mic or select Video only if you want webcam function only and then click Start.

7) Now your phone starts steaming the live video to your laptop/desktop. Now next step you have to configure your online meeting client.

8) In you online meeting client (Google Meet, Zoom Meeting, Microsoft Teams, Cisco Meeting, Jio Meet  etc), go to Settings  > Select Audio and Video settings > Select DroidCam camera in video and Droid Cam microphone in audio section.

Now you are ready join any meeting with android phone camera and mic.
