Ever wondered about a life like Tony Stark of Marvel's Avengers movies. Tony Stark aka Iron Man talks to his virtual personal assistant Jarvis to perform his day-to-day tasks, operates his home controls, and also controls his Iron Man suit. With the current technological advancement, we can do most of the things that we see in the movie, excepts for controlling the Iron Man suit, as we don’t have that.

So, today in this article we will discuss the Home Automation Basics, if you never did or thought about controlling your home electronics products with your voice commands, this beginner's guide is for you.

Home automation means controlling your home appliances like lightings, music system, television, security systems, etc. through WiFi internet or through voice commands, which will make your home a Smart Home.
Technically, home automation is part of IoT, the Internet of Things, it means when two electronic devices talks to each other without any interference of a human, that communication is known as IoT.
An easy example of IoT will be working of a smart security system. The smart security camera when detects any movement then it can send a notification with a live camera feed to your mobile automatically. In this scenario, the security camera has communicated with your mobile device without your involvement.

The Need For Home Automation

In the current world, we have lots of electronics products in our home. This home automation technique will help us to integrate all these electronics products together, it can also help you to manage your electronics device through your mobile device remotely from any parts of the world.
So, now with home automation, there is no worry that you have switched Off that light or fan leaving home or not, as you can control all switches on your fingertips on your mobile devices.

Basic Requirements for Home Automation

Now if you have decided that you want some automation in your home then let’s discuss about some basic things which you require in your home.

1) Stable WiFi Network

Any WiFi network which can connect you to the internet can be used but we recommend to have a strong home broadband WiFi network which can ensure zero downtime. A stable and strong WiFi network will help us so that their will be no hindering in our home automaton commands.

A smart virtual assistant home device is an important aspect in home automation. Google Home, Amazon Alexa, Apple Home Pod, etc. are some of the popular virtual assistant devices you can get for your home. 3) Smart Lightings 

The first and most basic things that you can do in your automated home is controlling all your home lightings through voice or remotely by an app. There are many manufacturing brands that makes smart lights nowadays. We will discuss them in details in a separate post, click here to check out.

4) Smart Switches 

Smart switches are similar to our traditional switches but they have some additional smart features like they can be connected to the internet and can be controlled through mobile app or voice control.
It can also have advanced features like schedule operations and auto day-night light controls. 
Smart switches can be used in a home automation system to control your traditional non smart devices.

5) Smart Security Systems

A smart security system connects to the internet through your Wi-Fi network. You can control and monitor your smart security devices using your smartphone or a web app. Smart systems generally include some security cameras, door and window sensors, a motion detector devices.

6) Smart Appliances

Nowadays many appliances are coming into the market which can connect directly to your smart home network and can interact with your other smart home devices. Few examples of such smart appliances are Smart Televisions, Smart Refrigerators, Smart Coffee Makers, Smart Weighing Scales, Smart Robotic Vacuum Cleaners, etc.
